Varnika

Kundu, 29, was driving home from Sector 8 at 12.20 am on August 5 when the accused started following her in a white Tata Safari Storm. When she slowed near a signal, they blocked her way and Ashish Kumar, who was in the passenger seat, got out and allegedly started walking towards her vehicle. Varnika says she reversed swiftly and took a right turn. The two men caught up with her on Madhya Marg and drove alongside for about 5 km, during which time Varnika called the police helpline. At a signal in Manimajra, bordering Panchkula, Ashish allegedly got out again and banged on her window. He tried to open her door. Two Chandigarh police vehicles pulled up at this point, intercepted and detained the two men — 27-year-old Kumar, and Vikas Barala, 23, son of Haryana BJP chief Shubhash Barala.
