Clean energy for a better tomorrow

-

In a bid to create awareness about the need to do away with the use of fossil fuels as energy sources, and to instead opt for cleaner sources such as biofuels, August 10 is observed every year as World Biofuel Day. Chandigarh marked the day with a special event by Indian Oil Corporation Limited, as per a directive by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. The function was presided over by Sandeep Jain, Punjab’s State-level Coordinatorcum-Chief General Manager, Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Punjab State Office, who said that India, having recognised the potential of biofuel energy, would have to plan a systematic movement to step up its use. Also present on the occasion was Dhananjay Srivastava, General Manager (in-charge, Retail Sales), IOCL, Punjab State Office.

The event, which was attended by students from various schools, farmers, and officials of oil marketing companies, included video presentations on sustainable biofuel energy that can boost India’s rural economy and provide energy security to the country. Prior to the event, competitions had been held across schools in the city, whose winners were felicitated at the function. A walkathon for the cause of bio-energy utilisation was also organized and saplings planted by the dignitaries present. The National Youth Cooperative Society (NYCS), which is associated with the event, reiterated its commitment to biofuel use.
