Karti can’t leave country without joining probe: SC
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court told Karti Chidambaram, son of Congress leader and former Union minister PC hi dam bar am, that he would not be allowed to leave India without appearing before the CBI probing him in an alleged corruption case.
A bench headed by Chief Justice JS Khehar stayed the August 10 Madras High Court order that put on hold the look out circular issued by the CBI against him. “We are only on one limited issue. Has he participated and cooperated in the investigation? The answer is ‘no’,” the bench told his counsel Go pal Sub ra ma ni am who said he would revert on August 18 as to when can Karti appear.
The court told Subramaniam there was no order nor was there any intention to arrest Karti. “Why have you kept yourself away from questioning?... They asked you to appear for investigation and you did not appear. First, you said you are abroad, but on coming, you did not appear,” the court said. HTC
