FARIDKOT: Justice Ranjit Singh (retd), a former judge of the Punjab and Haryana high court, on Wednesday reached Kotkapura in Faridkot district to probe the incident of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib and the firing on protesters in 2015. The new Congress government of Punjab had in April constituted the fresh commission of inquiry to investigate cases of sacrilege during the SAD-BJP regime. The new government led by Capt Amarinder Singh had rejected the report of the Z ora Commission, appointed by the Parkash Singh Badal-led regime, as “inconclusive”.

On a three-day visit, the ex-judge on Wednesday visited the spot in Kotkapura where police had re sorted to lat hi charge and water cannon sat the gathering protesting against the sacrilege in Jawahar Singh Wala and Bargari. The panel recorded the statements of a few persons who were present at the spot then.

Justice Singh will visit Behbal K alan too where two men protesting against the sacrilege cases were killed in October 2015.

“We have invited people who were present there during the firing incident. We will record their statements and submit our report within six months. We won’ t hesitate to summon influential persons if named by the family of the victims,” said Justice Singh.

Jaswinder Singh, a witness of the firing in Behbal Kalan, said, “It is strange how the cops who killed two innocent men can remain unidentified.” HTC
