Verdict in Gurmeet Ram Rahim’s rape trial on August 25

CHANDIGARH: A Central Bureau of Investigat­ion (CBI) special court on Thursday reserved its judgment for August 25 in the rape trial involving Dera Sacha Sauda sect chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.

The CBI special court, Haryana (Panchkula), reserved its judgment after arguments from the prosecutio­n and defence side were completed.

Ram Ra him’ slaw yer,S KG arg Narwana, said after the hearing that on the day of pronouncem­ent of judgment, Ram Rahim will be present in the court.

The authoritie­s in Punjab and Haryana have already asked the police in both states to be on alert ahead of verdict.The sect chief has been accused of raping a former follower more than once inside the dera campus on the outskirts of Sirsa town.

The CBI investigat­ed the matter against the dera chief. The sect management has been refuting all charges against Singh.
