Two held for drug peddling, 2 quintal poppy husk seized

JALANDHAR: The rural police have arrested two drug peddlers and seized 2.18 quintal poppy husk here on Friday. The accused are Jaspal Singh, 38, of Pattar Kalan in Jalandhar, and Hardip Singh, 30, of Main mainKap ur th ala district.

Senior superinten­dent of police (SSP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that station house officer (SHO) Maqsudan police station, inspector Jaswinder Sing h’ s team was pat rolling near a bus stand in Pattar Kalan village.

Jaspal was carrying a plastic bag and looked suspicious. During frisking, the cops seized 10kg poppy husk from his bag and took him into custody.

On being quizzed, Jaspal named Hardip as a source of the contraband and helped in nabbing Hardip.

The rural police chief claimed that on Hardip’s revelation­s, 208 kg poppy husk was recovered from 12 plastic bags. ₹40,000 was also recovered from him, that he earned from selling the poppy husk.

Bhullar said that Jaspal is a resident of Si rs a in Ha ryan a, and was selling drugsfor the past five months, while H ar dip works as a bus driver for Cambridge School in Kapurthala.

The accused Hardip had bought the drug from Harsh ad, a drug peddler in Jammu and Kashmir.

The SSP said that he will son be arrested. A case under Section 15 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotrop­ic Substances( ND PS) Act has been registered.
