LONGOWAL (SANGRUR): On a day whenthe state saw two functions — one by the state and another by the SAD — to commemorate the 32nd death anniversarry of Sant Harc hand Singh Long ow al, the former SAD president, both parties accused each other of undermining his legacy.

At the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) function, party president Sukhbir Singh Badal termed the Congress’ function a ‘formality’ and claimed that Longowal’s ideology was ‘anti-Congress’.

“The Congress betrayed Sant Longowal and now they are organising function in his memory. The Punjab CM sent a cabinet minister and organized a small function. If they (Congress govt) want to observe him, they should hold a big function. They should express their actual feelings about Sant Ji,” said Sukhbir at the part function.

Addressing the Akalis workers, Sukhbir claimed, “The Captain government will not work for five years and would not fulfill its pre-poll promises. The Congress government has not made any act to stop ‘Kurki’. The government has stopped all welfare schemes that the previous SAD-BJP regime started.”

“I am very surprised that you people of Sangrur and Barnala are still supporting Aam Aadmi Party. Their state president, Bhagwant Mann, cannot lead Punjab,” he claimed

Former finance minister and Lehra MLA Parminder Singh Dhindsa said, “To hold a function after 10 years as the Congress has done is opportunism. Indeed, the Congress cabinet has no vision, the policies of this government will ruin Punjab,” said Dhindsa, adding that the Con- gress had failed to fulfill any of its promises so far.

MP Prem Singh Chandumajra, State BJP president Vijay Sampla, Daljit Singh Cheema, Gobind Singh Longowal and Mohammad Owais also addressed on the occasion.
