SECURITY MEASURES IN PLACE, SAYS DGP

CHANDIGARH: Haryana director general of police (DGP) BS Sandhu on Sunday said stringent security arrangemen­ts have been made for maintainin­g law and order in view of the August 25 verdict in the rape case against Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh to be delivered by a CBI court in Panchkula.

In a statement, the DGP said the Haryana Police was fully prepared to tackle any situation.

The central government, he said, has provided 35 companies of paramilita­ry for- ces, the deployment of which has already started. “The focus is on Sirsa, Fatehabad and Panchkula districts where heavy deployment of paramilita­ry forces has been done.”

He added that the law and order will be maintained with the assistance and cooperatio­n of the people.

‘SOCIAL MEDIA ACTIVITIES CLOSELY MONITORED’

He said social media activities are being closely monitored and necessary instructio­ns have been issued to the superinten­dents of police (SPs) and other senior officers in the districts to main- tain strict vigil and “report and immediatel­y resolve” even minor incidents.

The DGP said talks are being held with officers of neighbouri­ng states Punjab, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh for cooperatio­n in maintainin­g law and order situation. He said efforts are being made to establish coordinati­on with followers of Dera Sacha Sauda through dialogue, and their cooperatio­n is being sought through meetings with ‘shanti samiti’ (peace committee).

Appeals have also been made to gurdwara management­s for assistance in maintainin­g peace and law and order, he added.
