DC dismisses clerk absent from duty since Sept 2008

JALANDHAR: Deputy commission­er (DC) Varinder Kumar Sharma dismissed a clerk from the office of tehsildar-2, who is also a proclaimed offender (PO) in a murder case, for being absent from duty since 2008, here on Wednesday.

Kuldeep Singh, the clerk, was absent from duty since September 29, 2008; after a case was registered against him at police division number 4, under Section 302 (murder)/34 (acts done by several persons in furtheranc­e of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on September 28, 2008.

The matter was brought to notice of the DC, and Kuldeep was suspended.

The DC said that after suspension from service, the headquarte­r of the clerk was fixed at the office of assistant commission­er (general).

However, he never gave his attendance report.

Even after restoratio­n of service in September 9, 2009, the orders of which was sent to the employees through post, he never turned up for service. Subsequent­ly, the administra­tion made several attempts to deliver the order to the clerk, but in vain. The then DC had even initiated an inquiry in this regard.

Sharma, under clause 13 (2) of the Punjab Civil Services (punishment and appeals) Rules of 1970, dismissed him.
