COMPARISONS ARE FRUITLESS, CARVE A NICHE FOR YOURSELF

American author-humorist Mark Twain remarked, “Comparison is the death of joy.” Still many a times we compare ourselves with others. Sometimes even wanting to be like others in terms of looks, the way we dress up, and the way we behave. We forget our unique traits, and compare and struggle to ape our peers. More often than not, we end up making a bad show of ourselves.

There is nothing wrong in having an icon in one’s life — someone you can look up to and draw inspiration from. However, it does not at all mean you start comparing yourself with every second person you have come across in life.

Comparisons are never productive. An obsessive impulse to compare with others is disadvantageous. This is because soon you’ll start doubting your own abilities and stop working on your strengths.

Comparisons pull you down, lessen your self-confidence and add nothing to your persona. The best method is to be yourself and be comfortable in your skin. Establish your own identity and carve your own niche in society. Harness the power within you to make yourself a better person, eschewing negative thoughts. Have faith in your own abilities.

Always remember the golden words of author Sarah Ban Breathnach, “I am what I am, and what I am is wonderful.”
