KARNAL: A 40-year-old woman, identified as Sudesh Devi, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in Gullarpur village of Karnal district on Thursday.

In a suicide note recovered by the police, the woman accused 11 people, including BJP’s Nilokheri MLA Bhagwan Das Kabirpanthi, of abetment to suicide.

After a complaint filed by her husband Ramesh Chand, the police have registered a FIR against ML AK ab ir pant hi, S om- dut,P ra deep, Vi ml a, A ar ti, Mangal Singh, Raje sh, Mahavir Singh, Shiv Charan, Ramp alan d ASI Ram Avtar of the Nissing police station under sections 306, 34 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The husband of the deceased alleged that the accused M ah ab ir, Subhash, Somdut, Bimla, Pradeep, Sandeep, and Rajesh had attacked his wife when she was alone at her house on March 2. He said that she filed a police complaint against them but the police did not take action against them.

He further said that on August 23, again, they entered her house and misbehaved with her, following which she committed suicide. He added that the AS I Ram Av tar did not take required action against the accused and the police was working under the pressure of the local MLA Kabirpanthi.

Talking to Hindustan Times, Nissing police station in-charge Jitendra Singh said the police have booked 11 people, including the MLA and started investigation in the case. He said that no arrests were made so far.

However, K ab ir pant hi denied his involvement in the matter.

“I do not know the woman, who committed suicide and I did not put any pressure on the police. She might have a dispute with the people in her locality but the allegations against me are baseless,” he said.

“But I am ready to extend all support to the police investigation and let them conduct a fair investigation,” he added.
