Swine flu medication for kids to expire on August 31

JALANDHAR: The oral suspension stock for children suffering from swine flu, will expire on August 31, putting different health department­s across Jalandhar and Hoshiarpur districts in a fix. The heath department­s here are already battling to control swine flu menace in the state.

Owing to the expiry date ofthe stock of syrup Fluvir (used to treat swine flu in children below 12-years of age. ) coming closer, the district administra­tion has written to the state health officials to provide immediate new supply. As per the sources, these districts have stock of oral suspension manufactur­ed in September 2015.

The sources claimed that once the supply reaches, the department will first send few samples to the state laboratory for a check.

The medicines will be send to the district hospitals only after the lab report comes. As per sources, the entire process will take a week’s time. “There are 23 such syrups with the department and a demand for fresh stock has been made to the senior authoritie­s in Chandigarh,” Jalandhar civil surgeon Dr Ragubir Singh Randhawa said.

Hoshiarpur civil surgeon Dr Renu Sood said ,“We have 83 syrups which will expire by the end of August. We have informed the authoritie­s about the shortage.”

State health director Dr Rajiv Bhalla, “We have ordered for the new stock from the concerned company. We will receive the medicines within few days.”

Health secretary VarunRo ojam, claimed that there is sufficient stock .“Anyone can contact the concerned drug warehouses for the medicine,” said Roojam.

Meanwhile, the state has recorded 104 cases of swine flu since July. Ludhiana has witnessed 36 cases while 22 cases were reported from Mohali. Jalandhar has recorded 10 cases followed by Fat eh ga rh Sahib and Patiala, the home town of state health minister Brahm Mohindra, with seven and eight cases respective­ly.
