JAIPUR: A 12-year-old boy died while another person remains untraced after heavy rains lashed the state capital’s many parts on Friday, police said.

Ayush Agarwal, 22, a resident of Kisan Marg and chartered accountanc­y( CA) student, drove his car towards Kartarpura nullah, where sewage from several areas of the city flows in, to take ashortcutt­o Barkat Nagar when his car got swept away with the water stream at around 7.30am, said Ashok Sharm a, an eye witness, who runs a metal shop near the nullah.

“I told him not to cross the stream, as it was already filled up and the water was flowing at a high speed. But he didn’t listen and went ahead,” said Sharma.

“Three other men, riding a motorcycle, also tried to cross the nullah when they lost balance. Their vehicle got swept away, but they escaped,” he added.

Civil defence force, state disaster response force and police were deployed to trace Agarwal. “We are yet to find any trace of Agarwal. But we have found the car that he was driving,” said Bala Ram, station house officer (SHO), Ashok Nagar police station. The second incident took place near the Man Sagar lake at 9.30 am.

“We got informatio­n that a boy got swept away into an open drain near the police lines. After rushing to the spot, we found only a cycle,” said Ramkishan, the SHO of Brahmpuri police station.

Additional deputy commission­er of police (north) Sameer Kumar Dube told HT that another 13-year-old boy, who was also at the spot, was also about to meet the same fate, but was saved by locals.

“But the other boy was swept away before anyone could act. We deployed divers and boats at the Man Sagar lake,” said Dube.

“The drain in which the child had swept away opens at the Man Sagar Lake from where the body was recovered at 5 pm,” Dube added.

“The victim, a 12-year-old resident of Galta Gate, was passing through the area along with the other boy when he was swept away,” said assistant commission­er of police, Amer, Pratapmal Kedia. JAIPUR: Many parts of Jaipur witnessed good rains on Friday as it started raining at 6am and continued throughout the day in the form of drizzle.

According to the water resources department, Jaipur received 55.7mm and Sanganer received 89mm of rain between 5.30pm on Thursday and 8.30am on Friday.

The other places to receive the rainfall were Ajmer, Alwar, Banswara, Baran, Bharatpur, Bhilwara, Bikaner, Bundi, Chittorgar­h, Dausa, Dholpur, Dungarpur, Jaipur, Jhalawar, Jodhpur, Karauli, Kota, Nagaur, Pali, Pratapgarh, Rajsamand, Sawai Madhopur, Sikar, Sirohi Tonk and Udaipur.

The whole of Rajasthan has received 440.30mm of rainfall between June 1 and August 25, which is 6.25% above the normal rainfall.

The state had witnessed 642.43mm of rain last year.

The meteorolog­ical department has predicted rain at many places in East Rajasthan and at few other places in West Rajasthan.

The weather office has also issued a warning of heavy rainfall at isolated places in the state in the next 24 hours.

As per the water resources department, Barmer, Jaisalmer, Jalore, Pali and Sirohi fall in abnormal category, while Jodhpur, Udaipur, Dungarpur, Pratapgarh and Rajsamand fall in excess category.

Bikaner, Churu, Ajmer, Bhilwara, Nagaur, Tonk, Jhalawar, Banswara and Chittorgar­h are in normal category and the remaining 14 districts including Jaipur are in deficit category.
