TO BE ILLUMINATED BY DIGITALLYCONTROLLED, MULTICOLOUR LIGHTS FOR GURU RAM DAS BIRTH ANNIVERSARY AND ALSO ON DIWALI

AMRITSAR : The high-technology illumination project for the Golden Temple complex is set for completion and would be fully operational by October 7, the birth anniversary of Guru Ram Das, founder of the holy city.

The illumination by digitally-controlled, multi- coloured LED lights would bedazzle visitors this Diwali. Manager of the Golden Temple Sulakhan Singh told HT that the project was on the verge of completion and the shrine will bedecked up with digital ly-controlled illuminations.

“The LED lights have being fixed on the top floor of the parikarma, Darshani Deodhi, entry gates, Ramgarhia Bunga and even on pillars and extended areas. The sanctum sanctorum has also been covered and now installation will be done on Akal Takht,” he said.

Old bulbs have been replaced and other lights would be customised so that pilgrims could select the colour pattern of their choice. “It will give fillip to the look of the entire premises and will be great attraction for pilgrims. The new technology will make it possible to change the colours and effects of the lights with the click of a button ,” he said.

These lights will reflect the grandeur of the gold-plated, dome-shaped sanctum sanctorum onto the sarovar (pond) at night, and that of the entire complex onto the marble flooring, the manager said.

WON’TBEFLASHY

The SGPC had suspended the operation of the hi-tech LED system at the Golden Temple complex after devotees objected to flashy lighting.

“It is not suspended... it’s just that we are waiting for the electrical adviser/expert to come and tone down the bright colours, fix a few hitches, do some proper fitting. We won’t use flashy lights and instead go for yellow or white that does not affect the serenity and spiritual ambience of the place,” he added.

Under the ₹13-crore project, around 1,700 LED lights have been installed at various locations, including the shrine, Akal Takht (still to be installed), Darshni Deori, bungas and the main entry point through the plaza.

It is learnt that the total power load would be less than 10kW. It would be a permanent feature at the shrine.
