Mansa teen’s death: Family cries foul, refuses to cremate his body

MAN SA Two days after Manje et Singh, 16, was found dead her under mysterious circumstan­ces, his family held a protest at the civil hospital premises on Thursday and refused to cremate his body, demanding arrest of those responsibl­e for his death.

Manjit was found hanging at the residence of Bhushan Danewalia, a local rice miller, where his mother served as a domestic help.

The victim’s family alleged that Manji twas accused of stealing a mobile phone by B hus han’ s family and later he was found hanging at their residence.

“The family complained of mobile theft and they detained my son for hours on Tuesday. Later he was found hanging on the first floor at their residence. We want a police case against the accused and an impartial probe to find out whetherhe was forced to end his life or was killed,” said Raj Kumari, the victim’s mother, while protesting at the civil hospital.

The family has received support from activists of the CPI (ML-Liberation) who have been leading the protest for the past two days.

Meanwhile, police officials probing the case said the victim used to dress like girls and was upset over not getting a female role in a play to be staged during the upcoming Ram Leela programme in Mansa.

“He was an effeminate boy and was depressed after he failed to get a female role in the play. We are still investigat­ing into the case and waiting for the victim’s brother to record his statement as the family has refused to even allow the postmortem examinatio­n,” said SHO Harendra Sra.

Meanwhile DSP Karanveer Singh has blamed the activists of CPI (ML) Liberation for creating a false narrative against the trader.

“As per the preliminar­y investigat­ion, there is no evidence of mobile theft and subsequent harassment by Bhushan Danewalia. The CPI (ML) workers have created this false narrative,” said the DSP.
