Banker or pilot? Man lured women, blackmaile­d them

NEWDELHI:A34-year-oldman,who lured women through fake profiles on matrimonia­l websites and extorted money from them, has been arrested, police said.

Police said the arrest of Yo ge sh Garg alias Sameer has also led to the rescue of a 42-year-old school teacher, a divorcee, and her 12-year-old son, who were in his alleged custody.

Nupur Prasad, deputy commission­er of police (Shahdara), said Garg has cheated over 15 women and extorted more than ₹50 lakh from them, mainly by threatenin­g to post their “objectiona­ble” photos and videos on the social media.

Once he would win the confidence of a woman, he would shoot objectiona­ble photos andvideost­ouse them for extortion.

Interestin­gly, nobody duped by Garg ever came forward to register a police complaint against him.

The DCP said he was arrested following investigat­ion into a complaint by a resident of east Delhi’s Vivek Vihar about a school teacher and hersongoin­g missing. The man told the police that his sister and nephew were missing since Sunday. He said his sister had recently uploaded her profile on a popular matrimonia­l website and she had come in contact with one Sameer Garg.

The complainan­t suspected that Garg lured his sister and took her away with her son. Later, he told the police that he had convinced his sister to meet him, feigning his father’s ill health. He called her to meet him at AIIMS.

“We laid a trap at the hospital but the suspect managed to escape with the woman and her child. I twas learntthat­t hey were going to board a train to Mumbai from New Delhi Railway station. We reached there and caught the con man and rescued the victims while they were boarding the train,” said Prasad.

The woman told the police that Garg promised he would marry her and took her to Va i sh no Dev i and Goa on the excuse of meeting his parents.

“She alleged that Garg has taken about ₹3 lakh from her. A case of rape and cheating has been registered,” the DCP said.
