SHIMLA :Senior Congress leader and party in charge for Him ac hal Pradesh, Sushilkumar Shinde on Friday said Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu will remain the state Congress chief.

This comes a week after the Congress high command unsuccessfully stepped in to establish truce between Sukhu and chief minister Virbhadra Singh. The two have locked horns against each other to gain an upper hand in the ticket distribution and strategy formulation for the upcoming assembly polls

During his visit to the state on Friday, Shinde said, “Right now there aren’t any plans for any change in the party. Everything will be sorted out soon.”

Meanwhile, reacting to this, Virbhadra refused to work under Sukhu and said that he will rather prefer to sit at home than to contest elections.

Before leaving for Himachal Pradesh, Shinde reportedly also met Rahul Gandhi in the morning.

The Congress high command is working on a formulae to placate Virbhadra Singh who refuses to compromise on his demand to remove Sukhu.

The chief minister has been changing statements from once saying that he will not enter the electoral battle this time, to then taking a U-turn to say that it is up to him to decide if he wants to contest elections or not.

He also met Congress president Sonia Gandhi recently in New Delhi and pitched his demand to sack Sukhu from the post of state chief.

Speaking on the sidelines of an event in Kangra, on Friday, Virbhadra said, “I became the party president when Sukhuw as a student of primary class .” He also unveiled a statue of Maharana Partap Singh Shahpur, Kangra.

Attacking the BJP, he said, “Whenever there are elections, it has been the modus operandi of many BJP leaders to resort to cheap tactics of dividing people on basis of caste, region and religion near elections.”

Making a veiled attack on his rivals within the Congress, Virbhadra said, “There are some leaders, who in search of safe haven try to shift loyalties, forgetting that those who can't be loyal to themselves, can't be faithful to others as well.”
