Refresher training of nodal teachers on Adolescence Education Programme concluded
A three-day training for nodal teachers was organised by the Chandigarh State AIDS Control Society, in association with Education Department, Chandigarh. Inaugurated on September 5 by Dr. Vanita Gupta, project director, Chandigarh SACS, it was attended by 50 teachers each day.
Dr. Gupta informed that ‘Adolescence Education Programme’ has been designed by the National AIDS Control Organization, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, in consultation with NCERT.
This programme is being implemented with the help of the approved module in all the schools of Chandigarh, to students of Classes 9 and 12. It is a 16-hour programme which has to be covered in one academic year.
Two teachers from each school have been identified and trained for the implementation of the Adolescence Education Programme. The refresher training was conducted with an objective to have a feedback and to discuss the challenges being faced during the implementation of the programme.
During the Refresher Training Master Trainers, Dr. Jitender Dahiya, Dr. Dazy Zaraby, Mrs. Anoopreet Kaur, and Mrs. Gurjeet Kaur imparted the refresher training, covering topics of ‘Background & basic knowledge of HIV/AIDS’, ‘Process of growing up during Adolescence’, ‘Physiological, mental & emotional changes’, ‘Adolescent reproductive & sexual health’, ‘Exploring life skills: co-curricular activities for life skill activities’, ‘Adolescence and sexuality: Gender and Gender Role’, ‘Sex abuse’, ‘Awareness building and sensitization’, ‘Anger management’, ‘Peaceful solutions for conflict resolution substance abuse’, ‘Problem & challenges’, ‘Relationship with other high risk behaviour’.
A short animated telefilm, Komal, based on child sensitization about good touch and bad touch, was also screened during the training programme. On each day an open session was also held in which expectations from school were discussed and feedback taken from the participants.
A softcopy of the AEP modules, IEC and other related material were also distributed to all schools.
