GURGAON INCIDENT A SECURITY LAPSE

-

An innocent child lost his life at Ryan International School in Gurgaon. The so-called reputed schools even don’t think of checking CCTV cameras. Whether CCTV cameras are working is known only after a horrific incident has occurred. Poor safety arrangements in schools speak volumes about the government’s apathy towards regulation. Even audits are a mere formality as auditors give you certificates of having followed all regulations and guidelines once you produce papers without checking the reality. Most importantly, there should be risk assessment of all institutes. They should assess possibility of harassment, theft besides physical injuries as happens in industries. It becomes even more important since it involves children.

The murder of a seven-year-old boy in the washroom of his school after he was molested has shocked the nation. The child was found with his throat slit. The police have nabbed the school bus conductor who they said has confessed to crime. Have schools become so unsafe for children? Another incident which went viral on social media was about a boy locked in washroom by his seniors who slapped him ruthlessly. That boy has lost 25% of his hearing capacity and has not gone to school since due to mental

trauma.
