BATHINDA: A Class-7 student, the daughter of a street-food vendor, at a private school in the city has been found to be pregnant.

She claims that her 22-yearold neighbour Pawan Kumar, a labourer, raped her repeatedly over the past five months.

Her family hails from Bihar. The father said he came to know about the rape on Thursday when his daughter complained of abdomen pain.

The private hospital they visited conducted a pregnancy test that was positive.

The parents approached the police and she was again examined at the civil hospital on Sunday.

Pregnancy was confirmed, though an ultrasound to know the stage of pregnancy had not been done yet.

The father has told the police that the accused had even threatened his daughter of killing her, his brother and other family members if she revealed the sexual exploitation that went on for five months to anybody.

“The family of the accused were aware that their ward was a rapist. So, they have already sent him to their native place in Uttar Pradesh to ensure that he can then easily flee away,” he claimed.

Civil Lines station house officer Kuldeep Singh said, “On a statement from the victim, a case of rape has been registered. An ultrasound will be conducted soon to know the status of the pregnancy.
