AMRITSAR: Themanwhoallegedly kidnappedanassistantprofessor of Guru Nank Dev University (GNDU) from Amritsar on September 11 allegedly committed suicide in Amboli village of MaharashtraonWednesday,itis learnt.Butthereisstillno trace of the professor, Sukhpreet Kaur, 32,whobelongstoBaghapurana in Moga district.
Sources said she was last seen in Dhilwan in Kapurthala district,andlateralsonotseeninthe front seatsofthecarwhenGarry in the driving seat was captured incamerasathighwaytollplazas ofJaipurandVadodara.Thishas raised suspicions that she may have been murdered. Sources saidpolicefoundthebodyofJazzinder Singh Virk, alias Garry,30, of Kharar in Mohali, next to his car, and informed counterparts in Amritsar. Cops from here reached the spot on Wednesday evening,andnowsuspectthathe mayhavekilledSukhpreet,with whom he was once hoping to get married after responding to an advertisement in 2014.
BOTHSTAYEDATHOTEL, HEVISITEDFIANCEE
Meanwhile, police investigation alsorevealedthatboththevictim and the accused had stayed in a hotel in Subhanpur, Punjab, on the first night after the alleged kidnapping.
Police said that though CCTV camerasareinstalledatthehotel, the recorder was lying defunct due to which backup for the footage was not available.
Thenextday,Garryvisitedthe family of his fiancée alone. “He offeredthefamilyofhis fiancéeto accompany him for dinner at a local restaurant.
The prospective mother-inlaw, sister-in-law and the fiancée went with him in his car. He dropped them off midway after suspecting that police was chasing him, though that was not the case,” said a police official who wasnotauthorisedtospeaktothe media.
Garryalsomadecallsfromthe phone of his fiancée which were scrutinizedlaterbytheinvestigation team. Sources said that he tookthephoneoftheyoungersisterofhisfiancée withhimbutdid not use it.
Police said that, when questioned,thefiancéeclaimedGarry never revealed anything fishy to her or the family.
The case has seen several twists ever since the alleged kidnapping on September 11 evening,whentheHindiprofessorhad gone to meet Garry at a restaurant near the campus over some money he owed her.
The kidnapping was reported bythefamilylastFridayandthey also received a ransom demand for ₹3 lakh from the kidnapper whousedherphonetosendmessages,police said.This laterwent up to ₹30 lakh.
InCCTVfootagelaterfromtoll plazas,hewasseenontheJaipur highway from Delhi and later at Vadodara in Gujarat.
Only the front seats were seen and Garry is driving alone in the Honda City sedan with the number plate reading CH-03-K-0012, whichwaseventuallyrecovered with his body.
