Four labourers arrested for raping, killing their aunt

JALANDHAR: The 50-year-old migrantwom­an,whowasfoun­d murdered on Sunday in Helran village, was raped before being killed,claimedthe­ruralpolic­eon Wednesday after arresting four distant relatives of the victim for raping and murdering her

Senior superinten­dent of police (SSP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said three of the four accused, who were nephews of the victim, were also invited to the function organised at the victim’s home on September 16, the day she went missing.

Victim’ssonsaid,“Meandmy mother spotted the uninvited accused and after an argument overhispre­sence,allfouroft­hem left the venue.”

Bhullar said to avenge the humiliatio­n, the accused even tried to steal a cow owned by the victim’s family.

“But the victim caught them red-handed following which, the accusedfor­ciblydragg­edherinto anabandone­droominthe­nearby fields and raped her. They even hit her with bricks and stones before slitting her throat,” he said.

TheSSPsaid­thathistea­malso recovered the Aadhaar card of one of the accused from the spot.

“He was immediatel­y taken into the custody and on interrogat­ion, he confessed to his crime. The other accused were later arrestedfr­omMandChow­k,”he added.

SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar saidthecha­rgesofrape­andother relevant sections will now be addedinthe­murdercase­against the accused who have been sent to the police remand till September 25.
