Juve’s nineyearold goalie dies in freak accident
MUMBAI: In a tragic turn of events, Juventus’ nine-yearold goalkeeper Tomasso Cerase died after a goal frame fell on him, crushing him to death, last Saturday.
According to media reports, concerned authorities are currently investigating the nature of death and reasons why the goal frame fell on the youngster.
Cerase was with the training camp in New York where the incident took place.
What’s worse is that Cerase’s mother Barbara Ricardi was present at the time of the freak accident.
“Today our dearest son Tommaso passed away in an unfortunate accident at his soccer practice,” the family said in a statement read by a close friend outside their home on the weekend.
RARE CASE
According to The Sun, Cerase didn’t immediately die on the field but at the Roosevelt Hospital where he was rushed immediately after the freak accident.
While there have been several incidents of footballers dying or getting injured on the field, with goalkeepers often crashing into the woodwork trying to fend off a ball, not too many reports lead to deaths where the frame of the goal has been the reason.
Thus, despite Juventus’ staggering form in the Serie A, where they are second on the table with 15 points from five matches, the tragic news will be a difficult phase to overcome.
