‘NEWTON’ IS INDIA’S OFFICIAL ENTRY TO OSCARS 2018

MUMBAI: Hindi film “Newton”, a black comedy on the foibles of democracy, has been chosen to represent India in the Best Foreign Language category at the 90 th Academy Awards next year, the Film Federation of India announced on Friday.

The movie, which released commercial­ly across the country on Friday, is Amit Masurkar’s second directoria­l venture and features Raj ku mm ar Rao, Pankaj Trip at hi, Rag hub ir Y ad av, Anj ali Patil and Sanjay Mishra. It was the unanimous choice of FFI’s selection committee, headed by Telugu producer CV Reddy.

“Newton has been selected as India’s official entry to the Os cars. It was unanimousl­y chosen from 26 entries this year ,” FF I secretary general Supran Sen said.

The announceme­nt came asa double celebratio­n for the film’s team, director Masurkar said. “We are really happy. The fact that the film is releasing today doubles the happiness. We hope that people will now really head to the cinema halls to watch the film,” he said.
