Vehicle-lifters’ gang busted, four held with 15 motorbikes
TARN TARAN: The Tarn Taran police claimed to have busted a gang of vehicle-lifters after arresting four of its members. Police recovered 15 stolen bikes and 1,600 capsules of intoxicants from them at Rattoke village, near Khemkaran border, here on Saturday.
The accused are Kulwant Singh, 28, of Rattoke; Jasbir Singh, 30, of Ghariyala; Karan Kumar, 25, of Khemkaran; and Saurabh Kumar, 26, of Bhura Kohna.
Superintendent of police (SP) Tilak Raj said, “Khemkaran station house officer (SHO) Manjinder Singh laid a special naka at Rattoke village and arrested the accused. The team recovered five more bikes and 1,600 capsules from their possession.”
“During interrogation, the accused confessed that they had been embroiled in a gang of vehicle-lifters. The accused said that Satnam Singh Satta, of Bhura Kohna village, is also a member of their gang. He is still absconding,” said the SP.
“After getting information about Satta, police conducted a raid at his house and recovered eight stolen bikes. But the accused managed to flee,” he added.
A case under Sections 379 (punishment for theft), 411 (punishment for dishonestly receiving stolen property) and 473 (punishment for making or possessing counterfeit seal with intent to commit forgery punishable otherwise) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 22-61-85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused.
