GHAZIABAD: A 25-year-old woman was allegedly gangraped by two men near Raj Na gar Extension in Ghaziabad on Friday night.

The incident took place when the woman was returning home from a hospital where works as a nurse, police said.

Police said the woman was dragged into some bush es by the roadside near NH-58, where the two yet-to-be identified men allegedly took turns raping and assaulting her.

The men also snatched her mobile phone and filmed the assault.

The woman has been admitted to a private hospital with injuries on her face and other body parts.

“While on her way back home, the victim noticed that she was being followed by two men. She first tried calling up her family for help, but the call did not go through ,” said RS K hod a, SH O of Sihani Gate police station.

“The two unidentifi­ed men stopped following her when they saw her on the phone. Moments later, however, they reappeared and pulled her into some nearby bushes and raped her,” added the SHO.

The incident took place around 10pm on Friday. It was raining heavily when the assault took place, police added.

“She told the police that initially she thought that the two men were robbers and were trying to snatch her mobile. She handed over the mobile but one of them pulled her hair while the other slapped and punched her multiple times,” said an officer investigat­ing the case.

“She said both the men were drunk and called each other by names while in a hurry to leave the scene of crime. We later picked up one person with a similar name as he had previously been accused in a rape case. But them an was not identified by the victim and we had to let him go,” the officer said.

Police sources said that the men were around 22-23 years old and unknown to the woman.

“She has been admitted to a hospital with multiple injuries” said the victim’s brother.

Ghaziabad police said several teams from the crime branch and special operation group have joined the investigat­ions and launched a manhunt for the accused.

“We are also scanning the nearby CCTVs and taking help from local informers. The guilty will be brought to book very soon,” said HN Singh, senior superinten­dent of police, Ghaziabad.
