Shiv Sena hits streets to protest fuel prices

TIES BETWEEN THE SENA AND THE BJP HAVE BEEN FROSTY IN RECENT TIMES, WITH THE JUNIOR PARTNER PLAYING THE ROLE OF THE OPPOSITION

MUMBAI:The bitterness between the saffron allies seems to be growing by the day as the Shiv Se na hit the streets in Mumbai on Saturday to protest against the B JP-led central government over rising inflation and fuel prices.

The protestwasled byThackeray scion and Yuva Sena chief Aaditya Thackeray and the pa rt y’ sMPs joined into attack the government for “making false promises” in the run-up to the 2014 general elections.

“We are protesting because rising prices is an injustice to the people,” said Aaditya, who took part in the protest at Band ra East. “All the promises made in the past were false.”

The protests, which took place across the city, assume significance as they come just a few days after Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut said his party is contemplating with drawing support to the state government.

Ties between the Se na and the BJP have been frosty in recent times, with the junior partner playing the role of the opposition.

The Sena has also stepped up itsattack on the BJP after talksof former CM Narayan Rane’s imminent entry in to the BJP have grown louder.

The protests did not go down well with all yB JP. Critic is in gt he protests, BJP MLA and BJP Mumbai unit president Ashish Shelar called their ally “shor Sena”.

“They [Sena] came to power because of Prime Minister Na rendra Modiji. They are reaping the fruits and yet shouting slogans against Modiji,” Shelar told Hindustan Times.
