INDORE: Ahead of the third ODI between India and Australia at the Holkar Stadium, Ajinkya Rahane paid a visit to the Khajrana temple in Indore and sought the blessings of Lord Ganesha on Saturday.

The temple is one of the most prominent ones in the city and was built in 1735.

This is not the first time that an Indian cricketer is visiting the temple.

During the Test match between India and New Zealand in Indore in October 2016, several Indian cricketers had gone to seek the blessings of Lord Ganesha.

‘DIVINE’ HELP

The blessings worked for Rahane as he smashed 188, his highest Test score, with Virat Kohli scoring his maiden double hundred.

So many Indian cricketers have visited the temple that the local media have dubbed Lord Ganesha as ‘Super Selector’. Perhaps, it is the blessings of Lord Ganesha that India have a formidable record at the Holkar Stadium.

“I have always enjoyed coming to Indore. Right from the time I was playing domestic cricket, I have fond memories of the Holkar Stadium. When I come to Indore, I make it a point to visit the Khajrana Temple. I get positive vibes by visiting the place,” Rahane said.

India have won all four games in Indore and Virat Kohli’s side, which currently leads the fivematch series 2-0, are on the verge of securing a series win against Australia.

EXPERIMENT

Rahane is opening the batting as part of an experimentation by Kohli after Shikhar Dhawan’s pullout. He isn’t assured of a fixed place but Rahane said he is not too worried. “The Indian team has flexibility. I do my best whenever I get my opportunities. When Shikhar comes, we don’t know what’s going to happen. “For me, it’s important to give my all for the team,” Rahane said.
