2 soldiers injured in Pak firing

JAMMU : At least two Indian soldiers were injured after Pakistan Army opened fire on an Indian post along Line of Control (LoC) in Balakote sector of Poonch district around 3am on Sunday.

Troops guarding the border retaliated and the exchange of fire between the two sides lasted for nearly 30 minutes.

"A round 3 am, Ha vildar Saigan Rai and Rifleman Vi jay Ra i of 'C' Company sustained multiple splinter injuries at Balakote forward post after a mortar shell fired by Pakistan Army exploded near the post,” said an intelligen­ce official. Both the injured soldiers were evacuated to a garrison hospital in Ra jo uri. Theo ffi- cial said that Indian Army retaliated in equal measure.

An army officer at Nagrotabas­ed 16 Corps informed that 8 to 10 mortars were fired from the Pakistani side. "There were no fatal or serious casualties on the Indian side. The casualties on the Pakistan side are being ascertaine­d," he added.
