Recent surge in incidents

n Though not on a scale similar to that in the 1990s or early 2000s, militancy-related incidents have been going up since 2014 n From 2014 to March this year, there have been 795 incidents in which 397 militants were killed while 64 civilians and 178 security personnel lost their lives n Compared to 222 incidents in 2014, there were 322 in 2016 n Since 2008, civilian deaths have been in double digits and in consistent decline. The number came down to 15 in 2012, 2013 and 2016 n 150 militants were killed in 2016. Since 1990, only in two years (2012 and 2013) militants killed were in double digits: 72 and 67, respectively. From 1993 to 2003, the number used to be in four digits each year n Since 2008, the number of security personnel killed has been in double digits each year.
