NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Na rend ra Mo di constitute­d on Monday his first economic advisory council, headed by NI TIA ayog member Bibek Deb roy, to analyze and advice him on key issues amid concerns over slowing growth and a stagnating job market.

The announceme­nt cameo na day the Prime Minister launched an ambitious scheme for providing free electricit­y to poor households and delivered a strong message against corruption.

“My battle against corruption is uncompromi­sing. And whoever is being caught, will not be spared. I have no relatives,” finance minister Arun Jaitley quoted Mo di as saying at the B JP national executive, where the party hailed the government for successful­ly running the nation’ s economy and policies.

At the party meeting, B JP chief Amit Shah took a veiled dig at Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, who spoke about growing intoleranc­e in India during his visit to the US.

“Tolerance is part of democ- ra cy but selective tolerance is not good for democracy ,” he said and accused the Congress of pursuing the politics of “dynasty and appeasemen­t”.

The immediate task of Modi’s council is likely to be suggesting booster dozes for the economy.

India’s economic growth slumped to a three-year low of 5.7% in the April-June quarter.
