NEW DELHI: The Congress on Monday hit back at BJP chief Amit Shah for his attack on Rahul Gandhi for defending dynastic politics, saying the ruling party is diverting attention from failures.

“Amit Shah’s desperation is reflecting in his statement,” senior Congress leader Manish Tewari said. “This government has failed on all fronts, be it foreign policy or economy.”

Tewari said the BJP-led NDA government did not fulfill any promise that it had made before coming to power in 2014. “In 40 months, they have proved that they don’t know how to govern and in the pending 20 months, they are only trying to polarise,” he added.

Tewari’s colleague, Randeep Singh Surjewala said, “Rattled Shah and his party should stop its continuous fear and obsession” with Rahul Gandhi. Where are two crore jobs promised by the BJP? How many new jobs have been added in the last 3.5 years? Why is Make in India floundering?”

Surjewala posed few more questions to the BJP leadership. “Why is BJP government burning holes in the pockets of common people by profiteering from petrol and diesel prices and making a windfall of ₹267,000 crore?”

“Will Amit Shah ever talk on price rise which has started squeezing the hard earned money of people? Why is consumption down and inflation up? Will he speak about his government shooting innocent farmers?”

The Congress’ chief spokesperson said the BJP government has “mastered the art” of economic mismanagement.

“Why has India’s status of being the fastest growing large economy now reversed?” The party also attacked the BJP over allegations of corruption.

“Amit Shah talks of corruption. Will he ever say a word on Vyapam, Lalit Modi Gate, Srijan Scam?”
