NEW DELHI: President Ram Nath Kovind announced on Saturday the appointmen­t of five new governors and a Lt governor with Banwarilal Purohit taking charge of the constituti­onal post in Tamil Nadu, where a political turmoil is brewing due to a power struggle within the ruling AIADMK.

BJP leader Satya pal Malik was made the new occupant of Raj Bhavan in Patna while current Andaman and Nicobar Island Lt governor, Jagdish Mukhi, was appointed Assam governor. Former chief of naval staff, Admiral (Retd) DK Joshi, was announced as Mukhi’s replacemen­t in Port Blair.
