PATIALA: A 20-year-old first-year graduate student, Manpreet Singh, has been booked for rape on the complaint of a 14-year-old girl. The girl was found to be three-and-a -half-month pregnant after she complained of stomach ache and was taken to a local hospital.

Tripuri station house officer Rajesh Malhotra said that the victim’s family approached police after they discovered she was pregnant.

“The complainant has said the accused took her to different locations and raped her,” the SHO said.

He added that the medical examination of the victim had been done and teams had sent to arrest the absconding accused.

A case has been registered against the accused under Sections 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant Sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
