At least 24 people sustained injuries in a head-on collision between a truck and a bus near Jagadhri jail on the Yamunanagar-Bilaspur road on Saturday.

Police said that two of the injured were referred to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, where their condition is said to be critical.

Eleven others have been admitted to a local civil hospital.

The passengers of the bus have told the police that the driver was speeding, due to which he lost control over the vehicle and hit the truck coming from the opposite direction.

Talking to Hindustan Times, Jagadhari police station in-charge Rajeev Kumar said, “Preliminary investigation suggests that the negligence was on the part of the bus driver but as he too was injured in the accident, he was unable to give a statement.”

Rajeev Kumar further said that the police have taken the truck and the bus in their possession. The driver of the truck managed to flee but efforts are on to nab him.
