6 more independen­t councillor­s join BJP in Gurgaon House

GURGAON: Six more independen­t councillor­s joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday taking the party’s total strength from 20 to 26 in Municipal Corporatio­n of Gurugram (MCG).

The BJP could only bag 14 of the 35 seats in Sunday’s poll.

The councillor­s who joined on Saturday are Sheetal Bagri (ward 10), Dharamvir (ward 21), Pravinlata (ward 26), Sudesh Rani (ward 27) and Mahesh Dayma (ward 30).

Ma he sh Day ma, who won the MCG election this year and in 2011 as an independen­t, said, “I am grateful to voters who elected me again and I have to stand up to their expectatio­ns.”

He also won Zila Parishad poll in 2005. On Tuesday, six other independen­t councillor­s had joined BJP after talks with Gurgaon MP Rao Inderjit Singh.

Those who joined the party on Tuesday are Dinesh Saini (ward 8), Rajni Sahni (ward 17), Navin Dahiya (ward 12), Ashwani Sharma (ward 19), Sunita Yadav (ward 22) and Kuldeep Bohra (ward 31).

Six independen­t councillor­s had met Rao Inderjit Singh and they joined the party on Tuesday. Six more councillor­s met PWD minister Rao Narbir Singh who formalised their joining.”

The party with majority in the House has a stronger chance of placing its councillor­s on the three crucial posts of mayor, senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor. The tug of war for these post has become more interestin­g with the new developmen­t.
