Man shot dead, cops suspect business rivalry led to murder

GURGAON: A 35-year-old man was shot dead by unidentifi­ed persons in Basai village around 10.30pm on Saturday after he had consumed liquor with his friends at his shop.

In the complaint filed with the police, it was mentioned that after the man’s friends had left the shop, four unidentifi­ed men came to the spot and opened fire at the victim.

Thevictim hasbeen identified as Lokesh Kataria, 35, a resident of Basai village, who was involved in the finance business. His family members have named one Mo nu as the main suspect in the case. They claimed that Mo nu had demanded money from Kataria a few days ago and on denial, had allegedly threatened him.

A case of murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code has been filed at Sector 9A police station, said Bijender Kumar, station house office. According to the police, Kataria was drinking liquor with his friends and moments after his friends had left the shop, the four men shot him.

Kat aria was hit in the chest following which he died on the spot. Police said that two cartridges were found in the pocket of the victim and they have sent the samples for forensic tests.

The police said they have

detained one person in connection with the incident and are questionin­g him. Kat aria used to finance autoricksh­aws and also had a contract for fisheries.

While Gurgaon’s real estate sector has been grappling with a slowdown, crimes related to property and finance have been on the rise over the last year.

In February, two persons were murdered in Farrukhnag­ar, located 20 kilometres from Gurgaon, after a property deal went wrong.

Another property dealer B harat Bhushan, 40, was killed near Sad hr ana village near Dar uh era in the first week of March over a dispute over a large plot of land.

In July, a 50-year-old property dealer, Raj Kumar, was shot multiple times by around 10 armed assailants in Sector 67.
