Shuttler killed in mishap

FEROZEPUR : A 15-year-old boy was crushed under a Punjab Roadways bus in Ferozepur, on Saturday evening.

The victim, Mayank Sharma, was a student of Class 10 at Daff and Brown School, Ferozepur. He was also a badminton player and had reportedly participated in district and state level competitions. The accident occurred when he was coming out of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Stadium at Mall Road.

Bus driver Jaswant Singh fled the spot after the accident. A case under Section 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the bus driver.

Meanwhile, following the accident, residents have demanded a ban on the entry of heavy vehicles in the town.

Local Congress MLA Parminder Singh said, “Death of a bright sportsperson is an irrep- arable loss for society. We will not allow entry of heavy traffic in the town during daytime.”

Deputy commissioner of Ferozepur, Ramvir, said, “To ensure people’s safety, prohibitory orders have been issued to ban entry of heavy traffic in the city and the cantonment area.”
