45 days on, son, daughter meet Ram Rahim in jail
ROHTAK Rape convict Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim’s son, daughter and other family members turned up to meet him in Rohtak’s Sunariya jail on Monday.
Ram Rahim’s mother Naseeb Kaur, son Jaswant, daughter Amarpreet and son-in-law Shan-e-Meet came in an Innova car to meet him nearly 45 days after he was lodged in jail for raping two of his disciples.
This was his second meeting with his family members.
Earlier, only Ram Rahim’s mother had come to meet him in jail on September 15. The dera chief had given names of 10 fam- ily members to jail authorities for meeting. The names also included his adopted daughter Honeypreet, who was recently arrested by the police after a 38-day chase.
As per the alphabetical order, Ram Rahim’s family members can meet him either on Mondays or Thursdays. Since the dera head is a convict, he is only allowed one meeting a week as per jail manual.
Inspector general of police (IGP jails) Jagjeet Singh said the meeting was allowed as per the jail manual. It was a routine activity. “To ensure security concerns, the meeting was allowed separately after the meetings of other inmates with their families were over for the day,” Singh said.
Sources in the jail said the family members got emotional during the meeting that lasted for about half-an-hour.
Ram Rahim is facing a jail term of 20 years.
