SPARE A THOUGHT

-

‘Air Pollution: No lessons learnt’ (HT, Oct 6) has a lesson. Bright flames and deafening noise of firecrackers presents an exquisite sight, which is thrilling to younger generation but has a gruesome effect on environment and wildlife. Not only children, but even adults, play with firecrackers at a risk to their lives. During Diwali, there are reports of people losing eyesight due to crackers. Government directions on the use of these crackers are hardly observed. Diwali is a popular festival, but it has gained notoriety as people tend to burn a lot of money in the form of firecrackers and costly gifts.
