CONSTITUTI­ON BENCH TO DECIDE ON PARSI IDENTITY

NEWDELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday referred the contentiou­s issue — whether a Parsi woman ceases to be a Parsi Zoroastria­n on account of her marriage to a non Parsi — to be decided by a constituti­on bench of five judges. The bench was hearing a petition filed by one Goolrakh Gupta, a Parsi Zoroastria­n, married to a Hindu man challengin­g the Gujarat high court verdict that said the petitioner ceased to be a Parsi Zoroastria­n on account of her marriage to a non-Parsi even though she continued practising Zoroastria­n religion.
