SAYING SOMETHING AND DOING SOMETHING ELSE IS A PATH TO FAILURE

It is unfortunate that many of us say something and do something else. And that is a sure sign of being dishonest, and a huge minus point for any person taking any leadership position. It leads to misery and failure in life. We generally use the word ‘hypocrisy’ for any such act, and love to hate the person doing it.

Any act of hypocrisy amounts to cheating not only yourself but those around you. Being dishonest ultimately leads to disas- ters in one’s life, and one has to pay a huge price in terms of instability and unhappiness in the course of life.

What is important is to make it sure that there is no gap between what you say and what you do. One has to be a role model of all virtuous acts to make life worth living in a purposeful manner. That way, you become reliable and trustworthy. Once you become trustworthy, people love you, admire you and you will earn their respect. These are the gains of being honest that give you the means to lead an enjoyable and meaningful life.

It was in this spirit that Irish author Oliver Goldsmith had this brilliant thought: “You can preach a better sermon with your life than with your lips.” That means leading an exemplary life is the way to go. Life is after all, as the saying goes, very short for those who live for a purpose.
