Gangster Bhana, 2 aides get life term for double murder
JALANDHAR:A local court on Tuesday awarded life imprisonment to gangster Daljit Singh Bhana, who was a close associate of slain gang ste rSukh aK ahlw an, and his two aide sin a case of double murder of February 26,2014, when six members of the gang allegedly opened fire at three young men, killing two, outside a gym in Tara Singh Avenue.
Bhana, who is a resident of Mithu Basti, Satish Gill of Baba Band aB ah ad ur Na gar, and Ranbir, B al bi rS inghChee ma and Dal b ir SinghD al b ira of Raj N agar were produced in the court of an additional district and sessions judge. While Bhana, Satish and Ranbir got life imprisonment, Ba lb iran dD a lb ir were acquitted by the court.
For the murder of Simranjeet (23) and Deepansh (19), their friend Randeep (20), who was injured and remained in hospital for months, was the eyewitness. Deepansh’s mother, Ashu, said she would appeal to the high court for harsher punishment.
When the accused were presented in court, high security was setup and the road outside closed for public traffic as there were fears that rivals of the gangsters may strike.
Before his arrest in March 2015 by the Patiala police, Bhana was avoiding arrest for 11 years since his first case registered on August 10, 2004, at Jalandhar for attack on a woman.
Bhana, accused in three murders and three attempt-to-mur- der cases in J al and ha ra lone, had visited Dubai, Bangkok, Brunei, Nepal and other places on a fake passport and forged documents.
The gang allegedly murdered a man named Pr inc eVig on May 8, 2012. It targeted the youths — for whose murder the life term was awarded — for assisting an eyewitness in that case.
