Ex-sarpanch, councillor’s spouse booked for taking bribe in PG murder case
POLICE SAID JAGBIR SINGH APPROACHED HIS FAMILY AND TOLD THEM THAT HE CAN HELP THEM GET THEIR NAMES CLEARED FROM THE MURDER CASE
GURGAON: G ur ga on police has registered a case of conspiracy and corruption against the husband of a newly-elected council lo rand ex-sarpanch of Nathupur after charges were levelled against them of taking money to bail out accused in a murder case.
Corruption accused are Jagb ir Singh, of Shikohpur village, and Leelu Ram, the ex-sarpanch.
The two had allegedly taken ₹7 lakh each from accused family to remove their sons’ names from FIR. The case is of murder of 20- ye ar-old Ra mesh SinghB is ht, who was allegedly pushed from the fifth floor of a paying guest accommodation in DLF Phase-3 on July 5. Complaint was lodged bySukhb ir Singh, who is brother of murder accused Satbir Singh, the owner of the PG.
Bis ht belonged to Na in it al and had come to G ur ga onto en rolf or a course in hotel management. He was staying at aP Gowned by Satbir. Bisht’s death was the fallout of an alleged fight between him and Satbir’s sons on July 5. Police had booked 15 people, including Satbir, his sons and caretakers.
Sub-inspector Manoj Kumar has also been transferred from the area after the corruption charges were made, police said.
According to Sukhbir’s complaint, Jagbir Singh, a resident of Shiko hp ur, approached his family and told them that he can help them get their names cleared from the case as the investigating officer “is a friend”. He allegedly demanded ₹7 lakh for getting the names removed from the FIR, police said.
Despite making payment, Jagbird id not help them in anyway and harassed them when they asked him to return the money, the complainant told police.
When they could not get their sons out of the case with the help of Jagbir, they sought the help of the village sarpanch Leelu Ram. His wife was recently elected ward council lo rand he agreed to help the family. He allegedly took ₹7 lakh from them but he too failed to get them out of the murder case, police said.
The family then filed a police complaint about how they were ‘cheated’ by the two men. The complaint also listed the graft charges and police undertook a preliminary probe. When it was found that the charges had merit, a case under Section 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act and 120B of the IPC was registered against the two men.
