Ex-Sirsa sarpanch who jumped off police vehicle dies in Delhi

SIRSA : Former sarpanch of Sirsa district’s Kaluana village, Jagdev Saharan, who allegedly jumped off from a police jeep on Friday, succumbed on Sunday while receiving treatment at a Delhi hospital.

Awarded with the Nirmal Gram Pu rusk ar, Saharan tried to commit suicide when he was being taken to police station in connection with embezzleme­nt of pan c hay at funds. He was taken to a private hospital from where he was referred to a Delhi hospital.

Police force has been deployed at Kaluana village to maintain law and order situation. Accord- ing to informatio­n, some village rs had complained against the ex-sarpanch accusing him of embezzling pan c hay at funds during the Congress government in the state. Later, a complaint was filed on the chief minister’s win- dow and an administra­tive probe was started against him.

In January, the inquiry team asked him to produce the pan ch ayat records. He claimed the records got burnt after his car caught fire when he was going to produce the papers. The probe team later asked the police to take legal action against him. Once booked, he went absconding. On Friday, the Sirsa police arrested him following which he allegedly jumped off the vehicle. Gorewala police post in-charge Sat b ir Singh said, “A team has been sent to Delhi as autopsy will be carried out there.”
