ROHTAK: Former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Wednesday said the B JP government at the centre has ruined the festival of Diwali for all sections of society.

Addressing a press conference at his residence here, the senior Congress leader said there was no rush in markets this time because people were still dealing with the repercussions of demonetisation.

“GST (Goods and Sales Tax) further ruined the business of traders, who are sitting idle this Diwali. Farmers can’t celebrate the festival because their bajra crop has not been procured by the government so far,” he said.

Attacking the government for the murder of Haryanvi folk singer Harshita Dahiya in Panipat on Tuesday, Hooda said the law and order situation in the state was deteriorating every day. “There is not even a single day when I don’t see reports of rapes and murders in newspapers. is feeling unsafe under the BJP government in the state,” he said.

Hooda said his party will raise the issues of law and order, difficulties in crop procurement and scrapping of the Dadupur-Nalvi canal project in the upcoming assembly session, scheduled to begin on October 23.

“The government has denotified the land for canal in a hurry and it will have to take back its decision,” Hooda said.
