Rahul Gandhi questions Centre on Doklam

NEW DELHI: Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi raised several questions on Wednesday over the recent Doklam stand-off and the Rohingya crisis with foreign secretary S Jaishankar at a parliament­ary panel, sources said.

Jaishankar reportedly maintained that the foreign office has no informatio­n about any resumption of road constructi­on in Doklam area, after Gandhi pointed out to media reports on renewed Chinese activities.

Gandhi, who had earlier sought an explanatio­n from the Prime Minister on the Doklam stand-off and questioned the Centre’s China policy, also sought to know how the Centre plans to handle border issues.Jai shank ar re marked that the border dispute between the two South Asian giants is“complicate­d” but added that diplomacy will be the only path to resolve bilateral issues.

The Doklam stand-off pitted China against India and Bhutan continued for 73 days when Indian troops stopped the Chinese army from constructi­ng a road in the territory. Another Congress leader, Karan Singh, expressed concern over the frequent Chinese incursions in Ladakh region of J&K.

Several members also raised the Rohingya crisis and demanded that the Mo di government take a humanitari­an line.

While the ministry didn’ t commit to accepting refugees, Ja ishank ar underlined they are in touch with Myanmar and Bangladesh government­s and India has been the biggest contributo­r of aid to Bangladesh which received 5.3 lakh refugees so far.

NEW DELHI: Congress vice- president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday condemned the killing of RS S leader Ra vin der G os a in in Ludhiana and demanded that the guilty be brought to justice.

“I strongly condemn the killing of RSS leader Ravinder Gosain in Ludhiana. Violence is unacceptab­le. The guilty must be brought to book,” he Tweeted.

Gosai, 60, was killed by two unidentifi­ed motorcycle-borne assailants on Tuesday in Ludhiana. He was returning home after attending a morning drill (RSS shakha) when he was attacked, police said. Gosain died on the spot while the attackers fled.

Union Home Minister Raj na th Singh also raised the issue with Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh.
