GURGAON: Many sectors at Manesar reeled under 5-6 hour long power cuts on Saturday. Residents were largely caught unawares and had trouble running their chores in the face of the outages.

Industry owners said that distribution agency and transmission agency take consumers for granted, as they don’t bother to leave prior word with them about scheduled power cuts or any such plan.

Sanjay Ahuja, an industry owner, said, “There was an outage at 11.45pm and when we contacted Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam(DHBVN), theofficial said power will be restored once the repair work at substation is done. We are not against repair work, but the electricity department should inform consumers in advance so that we can prepare our work schedules accordingly. My factory was open on Saturday and the long power cut cost us production. We lodged a complaint with the DHBVN at 3.30pm. Such long outages have become a regular feature here.”

Factory owners said the appealed to the distribution agency repeatedly in the past to keep them posted about scheduled power cuts.

“Mostly industries are shut on Saturdays and Sundays and the electricity department often takes up maintenance or other works at the substation on weekends. We simply want officials (in the utility) to inform our associations in advance about scheduled outages, if any, or, at least, leave us word on the same on the social media. Many factories that were open on Saturday suffered as there was no electricity between 11.45pm to 5pm in sectors 3, 4 and other areas.

This communication gap between the electricity department and the consumers isn’t desirable and this issue needs to be addressed urgent ly ,” Man mohan Gaind, president, Manes ar Industrial Welfare Association, said.

Power fluctuation and power cuts have been long standing problems that the DHBVN and Haryana Vidyut Prasaram Nigam (HVPN) have failed to improve on.
