DEHRADUN: A Haryana-based school teacher who poisoned his wife and 24-year-old daughter inside a room at a guest house in Devprayag on Diwali night is still untraceable, the police said.

The 22-year-old son of the teacher was found unconscious.

As per the Tehri police, the accused, identified as Rajesh Kumar Malhan, was last said to be staying at a hotel near Patanjali Trust in Haridwar but evaded arrest as he went underground on getting the whiff of police presence.

“We have sent teams to look for the accused teacher who poisoned his daughter Ruby, 45-year-old wife Pramila and son Jatin before leaving the guest house they stayed at on Diwali night. The teams will plot their action as per the tip-offs received from informers,” Senior Superintendent of Police, Pauri, Jagat Ram Joshi said.

Ruby and Pramila were declared dead by the doctors at a local primary health centre, the SSP said, adding Jatin was referred to the Srinagar Base Hospital wherefrom he was taken to AIIMS, Rishikesh. “His condition is out of danger.”

Malhan family had arrived in Uttarakhand on a pilgrimage on October 17, stayed at Badri-Kedar Dharamshala in Devprayag and went out for sightseeing in nearby locations the next day.

According to the police, Rajesh mixed poison in the food served to his wife and children and left the room on Diwali night.
