TARN TARAN: Police on Sunday booked an army man Ranj it Singh on charges of raping a girl on pretext of marriage.

The girl’s mother, in her complaint, told police that her daughter and Ranjit, a resident of Babowal village falling in Kathunangal police station, were in a relationship for the past two years. The accused had established physical relations with her daughter on pretext of marriage, she alleged. “When Ranjit came to know that my daughter was pregnant, he refused to marry her. Upset over being rejected, she committed suicide ”, she said.

A case under IPC sections 306 (abetment to suicide), 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) was registered against Ranjit, who is on the run. HTC
